Discussion program on "Localizing DRR and Enhancing DRR Governance"

On September 21, 2024, DPNet, DiMaNN, and ARSOW jointly organized a discussion program titled "Localizing DRR and Enhancing DRR Governance" in Janakpur. The event was participated by key stakeholders from various sectors, with the program being chaired by Sanjaya Singh, Chairperson of the NGO Federation Nepal, Dhanusha District. The chief guest for the event was Ram Singh Yadava, former State Health Minister, alongside distinguished attendees such as the Immediate Past President of DPNet and Chair of DiMaNN, IPP of NGO  Federation Nepal Mr. Jit Ram Lama as well as other prominent representatives from the NGO Federation Nepal. Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa has presented and facilitated on DRR Localization and  Enhancing DRR Governance.

Online APMCDRR Preparatory Meeting

On September 17, 2024, DPNet coordinated to organize an online preparatory meeting for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), set to take place from October 14 to 18, 2024, in Manila, Philippines. The meeting, held on Zoom, was part of DPNet's ongoing efforts to coordinate Nepal's participation through the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR), where DPNet serves as the Secretariat. The meeting was attended by distinguished figures, including Mr. Anil Pokhrel, Executive Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), and Dr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, Chief of the Disaster Management Division at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA). Approximately 50 participants, representing various stakeholder organizations of DPNet, attended the session.

Celebration of World Humanitarian Day

On August 19 and 20, 2024, KIRDARC Nepal, in collaboration with NDRRMA and various agencies including DPNet organized a two-day event in Birendranagar, Surkhet, to observe World Humanitarian Day. DPNet Nepal actively participated in the Program from its preparatory planning phase. Dr. Raju Thapa, Chairperson DPNet Nepal, and Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Immediate Past President (IPP) participated in the program and chaired a session along with shared insights on overcoming challenges and enhancing motivation in humanitarian actions.

Orientation of the DPNet Provincial Committee and the celebration of World Humanitarian Day

On August 7, 2024, DPNet Nepal organized a virtual program to orient the DPNet Provincial Committee and celebrate World Humanitarian Day. The meeting, led by Mr. Suraj Gautam, focused on discussing the newly drafted DPNet Province Committee Regulation, 2081, presented by Dr. Raju Thapa, which outlines the structure and governance of provincial committees. Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa highlighted plans for World Humanitarian Day celebrations on August 19, urging collaboration across provinces. Participants provided feedback on the draft regulation, and it was agreed that valid inputs would be incorporated into the final version.

DPNet Nepal Hosts Preparatory Meeting for APMCDRR 2024

On August 7, 2024, DPNet Nepal, as the Secretariat of NPDRR, coordinated a meeting to prepare for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024. Key stakeholders, including representatives from NDRRMA and MoHA, discussed the importance of advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR) in alignment with the Sendai Framework's 2030 goals. The meeting emphasized the need for sustainable investments, technology integration, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Decisions included forming a preparatory committee, drafting a position paper, and raising funds. The meeting concluded with a call for a unified representation of Nepal's DRR efforts at APMCDRR 2024.

The event, facilitated by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, addressed recent disasters in Nepal and emphasized coordination among stakeholders. Dr. Raju Thapa highlighted the resilience of networks like DPNet, DiMaNN, and NCDMC, urging collaboration with development partners. Discussions covered grassroots-level advocacy, challenges in DRR governance, and the need for improved collaboration. Participants also stressed integrating DRR into broader development efforts and highlighted the importance of local and international partnerships.
