This document is one of the case stories among the featured stories on the occasion of International Women's Day about the Deputy Mayor Ms. Mankala Kumari Chaudhary Leading DRRM in Rajapur Municipality in Bardiya. This story depicts the involvement and active participation of women in DRR.
In Nepal, women, girls, and LGBTI communities confront heightened vulnerability due to discriminatory practices and gender disparity post-disasters. Despite their overlooked potential as leaders, responders, donors, and rescuers, existing disaster risk reduction and management strategies fail to harness women's contributions. Acknowledging women's leadership and active roles is crucial, not only for building community resilience but also for safeguarding the lives of dependents, including children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and the broader community.
