Proceedings of the Koshi Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Knowledge Hub Inception Workshop report

Summary

This report highlights the mountain communities that face increasing risks from natural hazards and changing patterns, necessitating disaster risk reduction. Climate change intensifies these risks. Flash floods and landslides, particularly during the monsoon, pose a major threat. Women are disproportionately affected due to various socio-cultural factors. Risk assessment, including hazards, exposure, and vulnerability, is crucial. Building resilience requires understanding disaster risks and adopting a framework emphasizing information, infrastructure, institutions, and insurance against command-and-control mechanisms, monetary incentives, persuasion, and nudging. The framework aids in prioritizing resilience-building measures, addressing key questions, and tailoring approaches to specific hazard events.
