Rasuwa Glacial Flood Situation Report #1

Summary

This document is the Situation Report #1 (as of 10 July 2025) on the Rasuwa Glacial Flood, produced by NDRRMA. It details the sudden flood triggered by the rapid outburst of a supraglacial lake on the Purugu Glacier in Tibet, which caused widespread devastation along the Bhotekoshi/Trishuli River in Nepal. The flood has claimed at least nine lives, left 19 people missing, and damaged critical infrastructure including roads, hydropower plants, schools, bridges, and electricity supply systems, with losses amounting to billions of rupees. Sentinel-2 satellite imagery confirms rapid glacial lake expansion and outburst leading to the disaster. Over 1,800 security personnel were mobilized for rescue operations, and high-level government officials have taken steps to coordinate with China for road and bridge reconstruction. The report includes a flood-affected area map, council decisions (such as immediate relief, damage assessment, and cross-border coordination), and highlights ongoing efforts to restore communications, electricity, and conduct detailed investigations and assessments.
