Nepal First NDC

Summary

The report highlights Nepal's high vulnerability to climate change due to its diverse geography and socio-economic conditions, facing rising temperatures, reduced rainfall, glacier melting, and increased natural disaster risks. Despite contributing minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, Nepal is actively addressing climate challenges through institutional strengthening, policy integration, and coordination at national and local levels. Key initiatives include disaster impact reduction and aligning development with climate adaptation and mitigation efforts as outlined in its National Determined Contributions (NDC) to the UNFCCC. Enhanced actions include institutional strengthening, coordination mechanisms, climate change and forestry policies, energy policies, environment-friendly transport policies, the National REDD Strategy, low carbon economic development, various national adaptation programs, local adaptation frameworks, and funding for climate change activities. The report also proposes adaptation actions.
