Summary

Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, NDRRMA Spokesperson, presented the National Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan, reviewing monsoon-induced disasters in Madhesh province from 2070 to 2080 B.S. There were 259 events, 3,640 damaged dwellings, 136 deaths, and 26 missing individuals. The most affected districts were Rautahat, Saptari, Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Bara, with lightning causing 140 deaths, especially in Saptari and Parsa. Current efforts included cleaning canals and removing debris to protect infrastructure. A risk assessment projected that 412,000 families and 1.81 million people could be affected by 2081. The plan included search and rescue, food security, emergency shelter, healthcare, and infrastructure restoration, with measures for resource management, communication readiness, and support for vulnerable populations.
