Summary

This presentation on “Federalizing DRRM Governance in Nepal: Delineation of Roles, Responsibilities and Accountabilities” was prepared and shared by Mr. Dinanath Bhandari during the policy dialogue on Multi-Level Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Governance. This presentation starts with a brief on the institutional landscape for DRRM followed by the international concepts and practices for resilience building, federalization, and delineation of DRRM by categorizing hazards and disasters and allocating the roles, responsibilities, and authority of the concerned bodies. It further highlights the importance of local government as a key factor for DRRM delineation, and pinpoints the federal mandate and capacity along with the way forward for achieving an effective DRRM.
