To effectively utilize the available open spaces for conservation and practical use, initiatives should also be taken not being limited to governmental authorities alone, but also at the local level involving community efforts. Such open spaces can be used as a temporary residence during disasters and emergencies.
Recognizing the importance of protecting and utilizing the available open spaces, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority in collaboration with the National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) has compiled a list of identified open spaces in the form of a map book. The main objectives of this map book are to raise awareness among the public about the need for accessible open spaces and encourage participatory conservation efforts, fostering environmental conservation through collaboration. The map book aims to promote preparedness plans for emergency situations and provide support for public open spaces' identification and conservation. It encourages public participation in disaster preparedness and environmental conservation.
