GEDSI Integration in DRRM Workshop Report

Summary

This document discusses the significance of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). It emphasizes that disasters affect individuals differently, and integrating GEDSI approaches into development and DRR programming can be challenging due to barriers such as a lack of expertise and understanding. The Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) conducted a capacity-building workshop in collaboration with the National Housing and Settlement Resilience Platform (NHSRP) Empower Asia Project of CRS to address this issue.

The two-day workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of GEDSI concepts in the context of DRR. It brought together 25 representatives from NDRRMA, various ministries, civil society organizations, and international agencies. The workshop focused on fostering a shared vision and process to achieve GEDSI integration in DRRM. The overall objective of the workshop was to promote inclusive disaster resilience by recognizing the impact of gender dynamics on disaster vulnerability and recovery, thus strengthening the capacity of stakeholders to address GEDSI in DRRM policies and programs.
