Sudurpaschim Province Forms Provincial Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (PPDRR)

Dhangadhi, 28 April 2026: The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law (MOIAL), Sudurpaschim Province, in close coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and DPNet Nepal, successfully organized an interactive workshop for the formation of the Provincial Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (PPDRR) in Dhangadhi, Kailali.

More than 75 participants representing government agencies, UN agencies, I/NGOs, private sector institutions, media, community disaster management committees (CDMCs), DPNet Nepal, DPNet Sudurpaschim Province, and other stakeholders actively participated in the event.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Chet Raj Joshi, Secretary of MOIAL Sudurpaschim Province, while the Chief Executive Officer of NDRRMA Er. Dinesh Prasad Bhatta attended as the Chief Guest. The event was facilitated by Mr. Janak Dhami, Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) focal person of Sudurpaschim Province.

During the opening session, Mr. Harsha, Joint General Secretary of DPNet Nepal, shared an overview of DPNet and highlighted the importance and objectives of establishing the Provincial Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. Mr. Ashok Bikram Jairu, Vice Chairperson of DPNet Sudurpaschim Province, presented on the need and significance of PPDRR in strengthening coordination and collaboration among stakeholders working in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

Ms. Sandipa Khadka from NDRRMA further presented the policy provisions related to PPDRR and elaborated on the nine thematic clusters required for effective provincial-level disaster governance and coordination.

A major outcome of the workshop was the formal formation of the PPDRR Committee for Sudurpaschim Province. Participants were divided into thematic groups and nominated representatives from different sectors including government, public and semi-government institutions, academia and research, development partners and UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, private sector, communication and media, disaster risk communities, and Nepal Red Cross Society.

The newly formed committee members expressed their strong commitment to supporting DRRM initiatives and strengthening coordination mechanisms within their respective sectors.

In the closing remarks, the Chief Executive of NDRRMA  Er. Bhatta appreciated the collaborative efforts of MOIAL, UNICEF, NNSWA, Practical Action, Bee Group, DPNet Nepal, and DPNet Sudurpaschim Province in successfully organizing the event. He also reaffirmed NDRRMA’s commitment to supporting the operationalization of PPDRR in the province.

Concluding the program, Mr. Chet Raj Joshi, Secretary of MOILA Sudurpaschim Province, thanked all participants and stakeholders for their active engagement and emphasized the importance of collective action for strengthening disaster resilience and preparedness in Sudurpaschim Province
