Network of Networks Meeting Held in Kathmandu

  Jun 20, 2026

Kathmandu, 8 June: A Network of Networks Meeting was held in Kathmandu to strengthen coordination among civil society networks, platforms, federations, and organizations working in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response, climate resilience, localization, inclusion, and community preparedness in Nepal.

The meeting brought together representatives from different networks including DPNet Nepal, NGO Federation, NEAR Network, Humanitarian Partnership Platform, GNDR, ADRRN, Duryog Nivaran, women-led DRR platforms, professional societies, and community-based networks.

Participants emphasized that many networks in Nepal are working on similar issues, but stronger coordination is needed to avoid duplication and promote complementarity. The discussion highlighted the importance of developing a common civil society voice on key agendas such as localization, shrinking civic space, community-based disaster risk reduction, inclusive participation, disaggregated data, and humanitarian coordination.

The meeting also discussed the need to connect national, provincial, and local platforms and to ensure meaningful participation of women, community groups, professional networks, media, and other stakeholders in disaster risk governance.

Participants agreed that DPNet Nepal could play a facilitation role in bringing networks together, given its long-standing presence and recognition in the DRR sector. As an immediate way forward, the meeting proposed creating a WhatsApp group, mapping relevant networks and focal persons, and developing a simple framework for continued coordination.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding that the Network of Networks should not become another parallel structure, but rather a flexible coordination space to strengthen solidarity, knowledge sharing, joint advocacy, and collective action for disaster risk reduction and resilience in Nepal.
