GPDRR Preparation Meeting

Background

DPNet in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has been organizing a series of GPDRR discussion and preparation meeting. Last GPDRR Preparatory meeting was organized on 2nd May 2019 on the presence of Mr. Bamshi Kumar Acharya, Under Secretary of Disaster and Conflict Management Division, MoHA. Participants representing, MoHA, DPNet-Nepal, AINTGDM, UNRCO participated in the preparatory meeting. Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DPNet-Nepal welcomed all participants. Mr. Raju Thapa, General Secretary of DPNet-Nepal shared the agenda of the meeting, the possibility of booking the hall in Geneva, contents to be covered in an official statement and shared the possible contents of the official statement. Ms. Luna Khadka, Program Coordinator of DPNet-Nepal shared the compile comments and inputs received in the position paper. DPNet-Nepal in consultation with MoHA and stakeholders is drafting the position paper and official statement and once finalized it will be submitted to MoHA.

Major Highlights

  • The purpose of booking the hall in Geneva is to arrange a meeting point of Nepalese delegation, it can also be used as a display place and bilateral meetings with other countries, if possible.
  • Besides the shared points for an official statement, Cross-cutting issues, Legal and policy framework, Localization of DRR in Nepal e.g. disaster fund, the slogan of Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali, coherence and harmony in different international instruments can be added in the official statement.
  • After the thorough discussion, the meeting decided to include the feedback received with a citation in the position paper.
  •  The three-member task team including, DPNet-Nepal, Mr.Gehendra Gurung and Mr. Dinesh Gurung were provided the responsibility to incorporate the feedback and submit the final draft to MoHA.

Closing

The meeting was closed with the remarks of Mr. Bamshi Kumar Acharya, Under Secretary, MoHA. He stated collective effort and constructive inputs will be useful in finalizing the position paper and official statement as soon as possible. He thanked all especially DPNet for their active participation and constructive inputs.
