Kathmandu, March 23, 2026: A community-based training program on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Earthquake Preparedness was successfully organized in Budhanilkantha Municipality with the aim of increasing disaster awareness and preparedness among local youth and community members.
The program, titled “From Risk to Action: Integrated Training on DRR and Earthquake Preparedness,” was organized by Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) / The Green Village Nepal in collaboration with Budhanilkantha Municipality and DPNet Nepal. The training brought together around 100 participants, including LP4Y catalysts, GV youth, TDC youth, community members, municipal representatives, and disaster management experts.
Held at Jestha Nagarik Samaj Hall, Bhangal, Budhanilkantha-2, Kathmandu, the workshop focused on helping participants understand disaster risks in their communities and equipping them with practical preparedness skills.
The event was divided into two major sessions: Knowledge Building and Practical Simulation. During the first session, facilitators from organizations working in the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) sector conducted presentations and discussions on different types of disasters, community vulnerabilities, disaster risk reduction strategies, and early warning systems.
Participants also learned about household and community preparedness plans, emergency kits, evacuation routes, assembly points, and communication methods during emergencies.
The second part of the program featured a practical simulation exercise based on a realistic local disaster scenario. Through group activities and field demonstrations, participants gained hands-on experience in responding effectively during emergencies.
Organizers stated that the workshop aimed to strengthen community resilience and encourage collective action toward disaster preparedness. Informational handouts and resources were distributed, and participants received certificates of participation at the end of the event.
The organizers expressed their commitment to continuing similar awareness and capacity-building programs in the future to support safer and more prepared communities in Nepal.
