Women's Leadership in Disaster Mitigation Works A case of Community Learning and Action Centre Thakurbaba

Summary

Recognizing the heightened vulnerability of women and girls to disasters due to socio-economic factors, cultural beliefs, and traditional practices, USAID's Tayar Nepal, in collaboration with Kamaiya Mahila Jagaran Samaj Nepal (KMJS), is implementing the 'Promoting Inclusive Equality and Indigenous Practices in Disaster Risk Reduction Mitigation Activities (RUPANTARAN)' program in Thakurbaba, Bardiya. The initiative aims to harness the untapped potential of women as key contributors to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. Focused on establishing a disaster-resilient system, the project addresses the specific needs of the most vulnerable groups, including Freed Kamaiya (ex-bonded labor), Dalit women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and women, promoting inclusivity and equality in disaster preparedness and response efforts.
