National Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (NCDRR) 3

DPNet Nepal under the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) have already facilitated and organized the two editions of National Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (NCDRR) in collaboration with different development partners.

  • First Edition of NCDRR (February 24-25, 2022) discussed 15 peer reviewed papers, panel discussion, market place observation, essay competition, duet folk song and formal sessions.
  • Second Edition of NCDRR (June 29-30, 2023) focused on the midterm review phase of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) in the global context where four technical sessions were held while 20 papers were presented aligning with those four priority themes of SFDRR.

This year, the third NCDRR will specially focus on the Monsoon 2024 and facilitate learning and sharing among diverse stakeholders, from the local to the federal level, including donor agencies, government bodies, civil society organizations, public and private sectors, field-level practitioners, academics, media, researchers, and students. The conference will prioritize inclusivity, effectiveness, and streamlining DRR initiatives by ensuring the meaningful participation of women and vulnerable communities in DRR-related dialogue. It will showcase research, results, best practices, and field-level learnings to promote successful DRR to build a more disaster-resilient Nepal. Further it will also discuss and explore the relevant materials on the themes of a) Managing current and future risks and uncertainties in a rapidly changing climate and global context b) Prioritizing gender equality, accessibility and inclusion to leave no one behind c) Accelerate action for our collective sustainable future to participate in the Global Platform for DRR 2025.


Goals and Objectives

The Third National Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (NCDRR) will center on Monsoon 2024, fostering learning and collaboration among stakeholders at all levels, including government, civil society, donors, private sectors, and academia. Emphasizing inclusivity and meaningful participation, especially of women and vulnerable communities, the conference aims to streamline DRR efforts through shared research, best practices, and field-level insights.
The specific objectives of the conference are as follows:

  • To share DRR research, best practices, experiences and learnings about managing risks in a changing climate across all levels of government and multi-stakeholders,
  • To take stock of DRR initiatives and produce a comprehensive document for a Country Report and DRR Journal,
  • To provide policy feedback to integrate DRR learnings into forthcoming plans and policies.
