This report demonstrates how lived experiences during the pandemic are not only divided along gendered lines but are also exacerbated by intersecting identities and vulnerabilities.
The findings emphasize that gender-sensitive measures in countries need adequate financing and long-term sustainability to be effective. Recommendations include treating services to combat violence against women and girls as essential, ensuring sufficient funding within national and local COVID-19 response plans, designing fiscal packages that prioritize women’s inclusion in pandemic response and recovery efforts, and supporting women’s active involvement in leadership and decision-making during the COVID-19 response. Additionally, investing in sex-disaggregated data is essential to recognize and address the gender-specific impacts of the pandemic.
