This book, 'ITP DRR Change Initiatives in Nepal', compiled by the ITP Alumni Association Nepal and DPNet Nepal, showcases a collection of transformative DRR initiatives undertaken by ITP alumni across Nepal. Edited by Dr. Raju Thapa and supported by MSB and SIDA, the publication reflects the collective efforts of Nepali experts trained through Sweden’s International Training Program on Disaster Risk Management. The initiatives span across various domains, such as GEDSI responsive disaster governance, disability inclusive disaster risk reduction (DiDRR) early warning systems for indigenous communities, school-based disaster preparedness, community fire safety programs etc. Each project aligns with the unique vulnerabilities and needs of Nepali communities, empowering them to proactively mitigate disaster risks while fostering inclusive, localized resilience frameworks.
Through detailed case studies and field experiences, this book highlights the tangible impacts of these change initiatives, demonstrating how community engagement, capacity building, and policy advocacy have strengthened Nepal’s disaster resilience at the grassroots level. The publication serves as both an archive of successful DRR practices and a practical guide for policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders seeking to advance sustainable disaster management. Documenting these efforts reveals the importance of integrating DRR into local governance, academia, and the private sector, ultimately showcasing how diverse, community-driven strategies can contribute to building a resilient Nepal in the face of ongoing natural hazards.
