The Flood Risk Sector Assessment for Nepal highlights the country's vulnerability to various types of flooding, which especially impacts the Terai region. Some of the concerns include a lack of infrastructure for flood protection, which is made worse by fast urbanization and climate change. To reduce these risks and enhance preparedness and response capacities for disasters, recommendations focus on improving flood forecasting systems, climate-proofing infrastructure, fortifying institutional frameworks, and allocating resources for human capital. The report highlights that climate change is worsening in Nepal, leading to more frequent and intense floods, causing significant economic losses and fatalities. Urban migration to flood-prone areas heightens these risks. To address these challenges, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is working with Nepal on flood risk management. The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2017 outlines the country's disaster management responsibilities, with various ministries and agencies involved in preparedness, response, and rehabilitation efforts.
