The study looked into how bamboo is used in four districts of Nepal: Sindhupalchok, Gorkha, West Rukum, and Jajarkot for earthquake response and recovery. 83% of the 464 houses that participated in the survey had bamboo and other tree species growing on their property. During natural disasters like earthquakes, bamboo was widely used (85%) to build pillars and other structural supports, and 96% of households acknowledged its important utility. Despite its apparent significance, the local populace was found to be unaware of the wider socioeconomic and environmental advantages of this plant.
