This document is a draft working paper on the Melamchi Flood of 2021. The increasing frequency of abnormal floods in Nepal has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the substantial initial investments made in flood management. The study focuses on the Melamchi Flood of 2021, attributing these disasters to the significant drop in monsoon rains and the synchronization of major rivers in Nepal. The research underscores the importance of preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, emphasizing the need for effective risk management that involves coordinated planning and resource-sharing among federal, provincial, and municipal entities, which is currently lacking in Nepal.
