Kathmandu, Nepal - In a significant milestone for Nepal's disaster risk reduction efforts, the Nepali version of the Sphere Handbook 2018 was officially launched on 2nd December 2020. The launch program, organized by the Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal (DPNet), gathered 103 participants representing government and non-governmental agencies, with the majority being humanitarian practitioners working in the field of disaster risk reduction.
October 13, 2020- Nepal marked the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction with a virtual National Symposium titled "Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance to Manage Disaster Risk." Coordinated by DPNet-Nepal and organized by the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR), the event aimed to raise awareness and enhance knowledge on disaster risk reduction (DRR).
October 18, 2020- A presentation and discussion program centered around the Maina Bulbul disaster epic was coordinated by DPNet-Nepal and organized by the National Center for Disaster Management (NCDM) on October 18, 2020.
September 23, 2020- A virtual program titled "Roles of Civil Society Organizations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management" was successfully organized on September 23, 2020, by DPNet-Nepal, DiMaNN, and NGO Federation. The event took place on the occasion of the 41st Social Service Day and was chaired by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DPNet-Nepal and DiMaNN. The Chief Guest for the event was Hon. Parbat Gurung, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens.
July 16, 2020- DPNet-Nepal organized a webinar titled "Recurring Landslides and Way Forward" on July 16, 2020, as part of its knowledge management initiative. The event, presided by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DPNet-Nepal, featured Mr. Anil Pokhrel, Chief Executive of NDRRMA, as Chief Guest. Resource persons Dr. Kabi Raj Paudel, Dr. Jib Raj Pokhrel, and Dr. Prem Bahadur Thapa, along with 75 representatives from various organizations joined the webinar. The webinar utilized the Zoom platform with technical support from NSET.
A national-level meeting was held on 15 July 2020 virtually to discuss the agenda including the progress and future plan of the NPDRR, 2020 monsoon preparedness and response including disaster risk reduction initiatives
