The orientation about the Local Level Disaster Risk Reduction Platform was organized by DPNet in Godawari Municipality, Kailali on Nov 2, 2021.  The Chief Guest of the program was Ms. Ratna Kadayat, Deputy Mayor of Godawari Municipality. The program was chaired by Deputy Mayor. The Guests of the program were Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DPNet, Mr. Basanta Kumar Khatri, Under Secretary, Mr. Shivaraj Joshi, Officer, Mr. Marshal Khadka, nayab subba. DRR Focal person of Godawari Municipality, Kailali facilitated the program.

Mr. Hari Singh Saud, Mayor of Godawari Municipality, gave short glimpse of about the Local guideline for DRR platform. He further shared that there are many event of monsoon disaster so preparedness should be in inclusive and fast track mode. Mr. Basanta Kumar Khatri, highlighted some work and projects carried out in Godawari Municipality by Tayar Nepal. Altogether 35 participants including 29 men and 6 women joined the program.

Major Highlights:

• Mr. Marshal Khadka shared Local Level Guideline. He shared the structure of guideline and Local Level Platform for DRR. He further shared about structure, roles and responsibilities of the Subjective Committee in local level.
• Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, shared about the Sphere, its history and book. He further shared about the National Platform Disaster Risk Reduction Guidelines, 2077. Similarly, he shared the major provisions and structure of national platform. He further shared about structure, roles and responsibilities of the Subjective Committee in municipality level. He briefed about the importance of each stakeholder in this guideline and working field. He also shared about the role and responsibilities of NPDRR and Ministry of Home Affairs as well. Local level is the first responder of disaster so; it is important to update the emergency response at the local level. He highlighted the linkage between development and disaster risk reduction and management.
• DRR focal person of the Municipality shared about the formation of the Local Level DRR Platform and 15 Members approved committee guideline. The 15 DRR member committee member are still not decided. The subjective committee was reviewed. In the open discussion session, it was clarified about the importance of involvement of stakeholders in these committee. Different committee of stakeholders of NGO, media also should be involved. It was decided about the letter circulation to media, academia, UN, INGO, NGO, research based organization, semi-government and government and ask for representative for the committee formation in next meeting.
• Ms. Ratna Kadayat, Deputy Mayor of Godawari Municipality in her closing remarks, said that we should not only focus on committee formation but also should focus on taking lead from different stakeholders.
