Fire Safety Sensitization and Simulation Exercise Empowers Deaf Individuals

Kathmandu, Nepal - On December 1, 2019, DPNet-Nepal, in collaboration with Sarokar Foundation and other like-minded organizations, organized a comprehensive fire safety sensitization and simulation exercise specifically tailored for deaf individuals. This initiative was undertaken to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, embracing this year's theme, "The Future is Accessible."

The program was divided into two sessions, with the primary objective of raising awareness among the deaf community about fire safety measures. In the first session, participants received theoretical training on fire safety protocols, while the second session involved a practical simulation exercise conducted under the supervision of fire safety experts. The exercise aimed to promote the concept of "Public Safety for All" and foster inclusive disaster risk reduction (IDRR) for persons with disabilities, marginalized communities, and senior citizens.

Pallav Pant, Chairperson of Sarokar Foundation, emphasized the significance of such simulation programs for individuals with disabilities, highlighting the need for tailored initiatives to address their specific needs and enhance their preparedness in the face of potential fire incidents. Mr. Raju Thapa, General Secretary of DPNet-Nepal, reaffirmed his organization's commitment to actively contribute to events that prioritize disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction.

The fire safety sensitization and simulation exercise served as an empowering platform, equipping deaf individuals with valuable knowledge and practical skills to ensure their safety and well-being in the event of a fire emergency.
