DPNet-Nepal Hosts a Special General Assembly to Strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction Efforts

Kathmandu, Nepal - On November 6th, 2019, DPNet-Nepal organized a Special General Assembly in line with the mandate of its 12th General Assembly. The assembly, attended by 45 participants representing member organizations of DPNet-Nepal, aimed to discuss and devise strategies to enhance the organization's technical and financial capacity in the field of disaster risk reduction and management (DRR&M).

The program was chaired and inaugurated by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, the chairperson of DPNet-Nepal. Welcoming the participants, DPNet Vice Chairperson Mr. Ram Prasad Bhattarai emphasized the objectives of the Special General Meeting.

The main agenda of the program commenced with the confirmation of the majority of members and the approval of the assembly's agenda. Three representatives from member organizations were voluntarily selected to sign the minutes of the General Assembly. Mr. Raju Thapa, the General Secretary of DPNet-Nepal, presented the program report for the past fiscal year as well as the progress made in the current fiscal year. He also provided a brief financial report on behalf of Ms. Mridula Dhakal, the Treasurer, who was unable to attend due to illness.

Following the reports, the floor was opened for discussion, during which participants expressed their concerns and suggestions. The primary focus was on strengthening the technical and financial capacity of DPNet-Nepal and enhancing the capacity of member organizations through training and capacity-building initiatives.

The progress report, proposed program, and financial report were approved by the assembly with some inputs. Additionally, the Special General Assembly delegated authority to the executive committee to appoint an auditor for the fiscal year 2076-77 and determine their remuneration. The assembly also decided to grant institutional membership to organizations with at least five years of experience in DRR&M. Furthermore, it was agreed that DPNet-Nepal would pursue international projects based on need and importance, without engaging in direct competition with member organizations.

Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa concluded the program with closing remarks, expressing his gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and providing valuable feedback and suggestions for strengthening the capacity of DPNet-Nepal.

The Special General Assembly served as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and enhancing the effectiveness of DPNet-Nepal in its mission to promote disaster risk reduction and build resilience in Nepal.
