Approximately 10% of global deaths result from injuries, yet many countries lack understanding due to limited injury surveillance. This study aimed to create and assess a method for identifying injury deaths in rural Nepal. Collaborating with local authorities, health staff, and community volunteers, a two-stage approach was developed. Stage one involved identifying all deaths, followed by stage two where interviews with acquaintances gathered injury-related information. Feasibility was evaluated in two rural communities, identifying 67 fatal injury events out of 457 deaths over a year. The method proves feasible for collecting trauma-related data, potentially enabling injury prevention strategies and policy development.
