Post-Disaster Disaster Management Guideline, 2011 (विपद् पश्चातको शव व्यवस्थापन सम्बन्धी मार्गदर्शन, २०६८)

Summary

Nepal, situated in a seismically active zone, faces various natural disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, avalanches, and pandemics. Significant events like the 1990 earthquake, the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, and the 2015 earthquake have resulted in substantial loss of life and property. Additionally, recurring incidents like landslides and water and road transportation disruptions pose ongoing threats. The potential for seismic hazards in Nepal necessitates proactive disaster preparedness and effective risk reduction measures. The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2074 BS provides a legal framework for the identification, mitigation, and management of disasters. Proper recognition and timely intervention in the aftermath of disasters are crucial for minimizing casualties and facilitating rehabilitation. The law emphasizes the establishment of effective disaster response mechanisms, risk reduction, and rehabilitation to build resilience at the community and individual levels. Continuous efforts and periodic revisions of disaster management laws and policies demonstrate the country's commitment to addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters.
