Geneva, April 2023: DPNet and DiMaNN Team participated in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) in Geneva from 24th to 28th April, a global event that facilitates collaboration and learning among humanitarian aid workers. The team, led by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa and Dr. Raju Thapa, showcased Nepal's achievements in localizing humanitarian standards and shared their experiences with other participants. During the week-long event, the team attended various sessions, highlighting the importance of adapting humanitarian standards to local contexts and engaging diverse partners. They explored the potential of combining traditional and scientific knowledge to develop innovative, nature-based solutions for climate resilience. The team also learned about the value of using creative and culturally appropriate methods to raise awareness and engage communities in humanitarian standards, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience.
The Nepal Team's participation in HNPW also provided opportunities to network with other humanitarian actors and organizations, fostering collaborative relationships and knowledge sharing. They met with Mr. Sebastian Rhodes Stampa, the OCHA Chief of Emergency Response Section and INSARAG Secretary, and Mr. Winston Chang, Head of INSARAG, to discuss possible support for Nepal in Inter External Classification (IEC) and Search and Rescue Support. The Chinese Team, led by Mr. Zhao Ming, expressed their interest in collaborating with Nepal in the future. In addition, the team had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Bonaventure Gbetoho Sokpoh, Senior Advisor on CHS and Outreach, and shared their work on the localization of Sphere Standard and CHS in Nepal. Mr. Sokpoh praised their achievements and committed to inviting the Nepal Team to other international forums to share their experiences. The Peaceland Foundation, a renowned organization dedicated to addressing global humanitarian issues, also expressed interest in working with DPNet and DiMaNN, particularly in civil society engagement.
The Nepal Team's active participation in HNPW demonstrates their dedication to improving humanitarian aid in their country. By sharing their experiences and learning from others, they aim to continue strengthening their capacity to address the challenges and impacts of disasters and crises more effectively. Their commitment to localizing humanitarian standards shows the importance of adapting global frameworks to suit the specific needs and contexts of the communities they serve.
