Major Highlights

Official Delegates Meeting and Opening Ceremony

MoHA Secretary Mr. Prem Kumar Rai, Joint Secretary Ms. Indu Ghimire, Under Secretary Mr. Bamshi Kumar Acharaya, other government officials and civil society leaders joined the official delegation meeting. After the official's delegates meeting opening ceremony was started, MOHA Secretary and Ambassador of Permanent Mission of Nepal Geneva participated in the opening ceremony and other delegates and participants watched the opening ceremony in the video screen.

In the opening ceremony Mr. Michael Miller, Director General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Manuel Sage, Swiss Agency for Development, Deputy General Secretary of United Nations, UN Secretary-General highlighted the global situation of DRR and Climate Change, the importance of social inclusion in the Overall disaster management cycle. They also highlighted the role of youth in the DRR and Climate change, the importance of data management, use of technology and new innovation and creation in the field of DRR and climate change.

  • The Global Assessment Report (GAR) on Disaster Risk Reduction is launched and is now available for download at GAR website.
  • Recognizing the importance of inclusivity and sustainability in reducing disaster risk 14 Nominees from different parts of the world shortlisted for biennial Sasakawa Awards 2019.
  • Few organizations including private sectors have established exhibition stalls for visitors.
  • In the Ignite Stage different team presented issues, research findings and their learning about DRR in Nepal.
  • Opportunity for DPNet-Nepal for networking with different international organizations
